EXTENSION & REIMAGINATION

Holly Cottage is a Listed family home that sits in the centre of Meonstoke village, which sits 12 miles to the south west of Winchester in the South Downs National Park. The architectural feasibility study was commissioned to review how the existing house is used and how it might be able renovated to add flexible to the layout which could future proof the house to have the ability to accommodate the extended family members, whilst also looking to respond and engage better with the garden and immediate landscape.

The challenge has been to look at a number of design ideas that can maximize these existing conditions and exploit the amazing potential for interaction with the garden and the house can have a greater relationship with the garden and maximise the potential for a new stand-alone annex building.

A series of options were considered that looked at the type of form, material and detailed composition of various extensions, seeking to address the excellent position that the house holds, with regards to solar orientation and have sought to maximise both the wonderful long views across the site.
